Boating-safety grant
COLUMBUS -- The Mahoning County Sheriff's Department will receive a $6,175 grant this year from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to assist in boating safety enforcement. The grant is part of the ODNR's distribution of $547,638 in Marine Patrol Grants among 30 Ohio law-enforcement agencies. The money will be used to enforce local laws and maintain boating safety on state waterways. Each grant recipient must match at least 25 percent of funds.
K9s For Compassion
YOUNGSTOWN -- K9s For Compassion, a Delta Society Pet Partners affiliate group, is having evaluations for prospective Pet Partners. The events will take place from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. April 23-24 at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Belmont Avenue. K9s For Compassion is a nonprofit volunteer group that takes dogs, cats, birds and rabbits to visit patients in local hospitals and nursing homes. Evaluations are by appointment only.
