PREP TRACK Poland girls ready for Bulldog meet



Fourteen girls teams and 12 boys teams are entered in Saturday's event.
EAST PALESTINE -- The Poland High girls track team, which dominated last week's East Palestine invitational track and field meet, will be the squad to beat in the Bulldog Invitational Saturday at Reid stadium.
There will be 14 girls and 12 boys teams entered. Preliminaries are set for 9 a.m. and finals will begin at 11:30.
Mooney, Rootstown and Salem are expected to challenge the Bulldogs.
The 300 hurdle race has Poland's Amber Ferraro (50.1 seconds), Salem's Katie Finnicum (51.1) and Struthers' Nicole Robenold (51.9) entered.
Featured in the distance runs will be Poland's Colleen Moran and Lauren Fithian and Salem's Dierdre and Liz Shivers.
Struthers defends
In the boys division, defending champion Struthers will be challenged by Beaver Local, Garfield Trinity Heights, Mooney and Salem.
Ben Andre (15.0) of Salem, Dan Kinsey (15.2) of Beaver Local and Eric Anderson (15.4) of Struthers will be featured in the high hurdles. Kinsey is the athlete to beat in the intermediate hurdles, discus and long jump.
Keith Suchora of Struthers (50-10) will contend in the shot. Teammate Justin Penson (23.1) is entered in the 200 and the Wildcats are the favorite in the 4x200 and 4x100 relays.
For the third straight week, Springfield's Nick Panezich and Lisbon's Dom DeFilippo will compete in the throws.
Berlin Center
Warren JFK (boys) and Western Reserve (girls) will defend titles, with 11 schools entered in the Division III Invitational Saturday at Western Reserve High, with prelims scheduled at 10 a.m. and finals at 11:30.
Mineral Ridge's Levi Leigh will be featured in the 110 hurdles (14.9 seconds), 300 hurdles (41.1) and long jump (21 feet, 1 inch).
Tom Andriko of Lordstown (51.3) in the defending 400 champ and he has one of the area's best times in the 1600.
Rachel Mariotti of Lowellville, Samantha Kistler of Lordstown and Nicole Chick of Newton Falls will contend in the hurdles.
The shot put and discus has four of the area's top performers entered as Alex Rathburn (37-5) of Western Reserve, Valerie Valentine (38-9 and 110) of Leetonia, Megan White (106-8) of Mineral Ridge and Jackie Clonch (35-1 and 114-9) of Newton Falls entered.
The Liberty and Columbiana Hawkins Invitational track meets begin Saturday at 10 a.m.
