Springfield gets computer grant

NEW SPRINGFIELD -- There is only one computer lab in Springfield Intermediate School, school officials say. That lab is inaccessible twice a day because typing classes convene there.
That's why Joan Patrone, library media specialist, sought a grant from the Ohio Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Recently, the State Library of Ohio approved $21,897 for the Springfield Local School District to pay for 75 percent of the cost of buying 20 wireless laptops for the intermediate school library. The district will pay the additional 25 percent.
"We are going to purchase them in July," Patrone said. "We'll be up in September."
Patrone said teachers will be able to reserve space in the library for their pupils to use the computers to work on papers and research.
Fifty-five schools applied for the grant, and 21 were awarded funds.
