Council to open bids for sewer project

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Bids for the Stacy Drive storm sewer project will be opened at next month's meeting and work is expected to be done in June or July, New Middletown Village Council has learned.
Dave Bakalar, of Thomas Fok & amp; Associates, the village's engineering firm, told council at its meeting Monday that engineering estimates for the project came in $11,000 higher than the $130,000 Ohio Public Works Commission no-interest loan that will finance the project. Council agreed to make up the difference if necessary.
Council agreed to draw up specifications for repair of the parking lot of the village administration building. Pavement is cracking and large potholes opening, Police Chief Bill Morvay reported.
They also approved paying Conner Asphalt, New Springfield, up to $705 to repair a sinkhole on Sandy Drive.
Fire Chief Bill Opsitnik reminded residents that open burning is prohibited by village ordinance, state law and EPA rules.
