Ceremony set to honor volunteers from community



BOARDMAN -- Mahoning Valley residents who share their time and talents to make a difference in the community will be honored during National Volunteer Week, April 17-23.
The Volunteer Services Agency, Inc., in cooperation with Ohio Edison through the FirstEnergy Foundation, will host a special National Volunteer Week awards ceremony from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday at Antone's Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.
Thirteen individuals and groups will be honored.
Jay Williams, director of the Youngstown Community Development Agency, will present the keynote address on, "The Merits of a Collective Community Vision and the Value of Volunteers."
Frank Marzullo, WFMJ morning weatherman and personality, will serve as emcee.
Reservations will be accepted until Thursday. Tickets are $20 per person.
National Volunteer Week was established in 1974, when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing an annual celebration of volunteering. It is sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network.
