Woman charged with driving stolen police car
AUSTINTOWN -- An East Liverpool woman was charged with grand theft and breaking and entering after police caught her driving a police car that had been stolen from the township maintenance garage.
Police stopped Tracy L. Beebout, 40, who was driving the new cruiser, about 8:15 a.m. Monday at the Burkey-South Raccoon Road intersection.
A maintenance department employee arrived at work about 6 a.m. and found the garage at 82 Ohltown Road open and the cruiser, which was in the final stages of equipment installation, gone. There were no signs of forced entry, and the keys were left in the car's ignition. There were no weapons in the cruiser.
Armed robbery reported
BOARDMAN -- Two gunmen robbed the Springfield Grille shortly after it had closed about 1 a.m. Sunday and escaped with cash and checks.
Review reveals speed
AUSTINTOWN -- The car in a fatal crash here last week reached speeds of 119 mph, according to police.
Vincent L. Marzano Jr., 32, of Leffingwell Road, Canfield, the driver, was killed. The passenger, Robert J. Bako, Rosalyn Drive, Mineral Ridge, was released from the hospital a few days after the April 5 crash.
Police said that Lt. Mark Milsted of Youngstown Police reviewed information found in the car's airbag sensor control modular to determine the speed, which was logged 3 seconds before the crash.
The speed dropped as the driver applied the brakes. One second before the airbags deployed, the speed was 94 mph.
Robbery suspect sought
NILES -- City police are looking for a Sharon, Pa., man wanted for the April 6 robbery of White's Mobile Towing Service, 374 Robbins Ave. According Niles police, White's was robbed at gunpoint and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. The suspect's vehicle was found in Hermitage, Pa., police said.
Jury selection begins
WARREN -- Jury selection is scheduled to continue today in the case of a 30-year-old Warren man facing drug related charges. Lyndal Kimble's trial began Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. Kimble faces eight counts of drug trafficking and two counts of drug possession. He also faces one misdemeanor drug possession charge. If convicted of all the counts, he could get up to 14 years in prison, officials said. A traffic stop June 28, 2003, and Kimble's arrest in an unrelated case were videotaped by a bystander and then shown to local and national broadcast networks. Kimble has maintained that he was a victim of police brutality; his lawsuit against police is pending.
Robberies investigated
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating two robberies that occurred over the weekend.
An employee at the lottery booth at 202 S. Meridian Road, told police that two men wearing ski masks and brandishing guns robbed the business Friday. One of the men was in a pickup truck with the other on foot.
An employee at Comfort Inn, Clarkins Drive, told police that a man with a knife robbed a knife robbed the front desk of cash Sunday and.
Lip Sync/Talent show
McDONALD -- The annual McDonald Lip Sync/Talent Show will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the high school auditorium, 600 Iowa Ave.
McDonald pupils in grades seven through12 will take part in the show.
Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students and will be on sale at the door.
Advisory team to meet
VIENNA -- The Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency's Weapons of Mass Destruction Advisory Team will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the EMA office at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. The board reviews all Department of Homeland Security funding requests and purchases.
