BASEBALL Rosko's one-hitter powers Canfield



Niles, Ursuline and Warren Harding posted league wins.
SALEM -- Junior pitcher Joe Rosko fired a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts Monday to lead the Canfield High baseball team to an 8-1 victory over Salem.
Tim Colian's fifth-inning double broke up Rosko's no-hit bid. Rosko (3-0) walked four for the Cardinals (5-4, 3-0 Metro Athletic Conference).
Drew Turocy and Sean Baker each had two hits including doubles for Canfield. C.J. Morris tripled and Kyle Banna doubled.
Salem is 0-3 in the MAC.
Niles 11, Poland 1
NILES -- Mike Ruscitti and Robbie Porter had three hits for the Red Dragons (7-2, 2-1 MAC).
For Poland (5-4, 2-1), Tom Clayton had two hits and Jim Petrella doubled.
Ursuline 8, Warren JFK 0
STRUTHERS -- Josh Tedesco struck out eight batters in tossing a five-hit shutout at Cene Park. He walked two batters and hit two others.
Eddie Rohan led the Irish (6-3, 2-1 Steel Valley Conference) attack with a triple and a double that drove in two runs.
Ryan Satterlee's two hits included a triple and drove in two runs. Also with two hits were Matt Tynol, Andy Frasco and David Patrick.
For Warren JFK, Josh Cooper had two hits.
Warren Harding 10, Mooney 1
WARREN -- Tom Popadak struck out 12 batters and walked one for the Raiders (4-5, 3-0 SVC). He also homered.
Ryan Cameron homered and doubled for Harding while DeAndre Ware doubled.
Kevin Drummond doubled for Mooney.
Chaney 17, Wilson 4
YOUNGSTOWN -- Joe Vaught homered, Dave Bako tripled and Lou Kopachy and Joe Morales doubled for Chaney (2-7, 2-0 SVC).
Wilson is 0-8, 0-2.
McDonald 6, Springfield 3
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Winning pitcher Corey Vukovic had three hits as the Blue Devils (2-1 in the Inter-County League) rallied with three runs in the eighth inning. Vukovic had five strikeouts and two walks.
A walk and two errors led to the extra-inning runs. Jon Camuso contributed a RBI single.
Steven Hughes' two hits included a double. Tom John also had a pair of hits for McDonald.
For Springfield (6-2, 1-2), Joey D'Amato, Melio Rios and Zach DeJane each had two hits.
Western Reserve 18,Lowellville 0
STRUTHERS -- The Blue Devils out-hit the Rockets 15-5 and three pitchers combined on a shutout at Cene Park.
Vince Barbone had three hits and scored four runs for the Blue Devils. Ryan Lude added two hits, including a double, and four RBIs while Jeff Zatchok, the winning pitcher, singled twice and drove in three runs. Dave Drevna and Adam Young also had two hits apiece.
South Range 20, Mineral Ridge 12
MINERAL RIDGE -- Steve Bensinger hit a three-run homer and Joe Marino had a two-run shot for the Raiders (3-5, 2-1 ICL).
Bensinger picked up the mound win, striking out eight.
Tom DeChellis and Eugene Leson each had three hits including doubles.
For Mineral Ridge, Brad Ward tripled and doubled while Tim Grantz had three hits including a double.
Lakeview 11, Hubbard 6
HUBBARD -- Sean McBride had three hits while Mike Frangiamore and Matt Pytlik had two apiece for the Bulldogs.
For Hubbard (4-2, 1-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference), Eddie Palestro had three hits and Frank Rosile doubled.
Liberty 10, Girard 5
GIRARD -- Brett Dutton's two hits included a two-run homer for Girard. First names were not provided for Liberty's players.
