PREP BASEBALL Mooney cruises against JFK, 9-5 on 5-run rally

Fitch posted an 11-10 win over Canfield for the first time in eight years.
STRUTHERS -- Joe Irwin and Shane Gallagher each had two hits, a run and an RBI to lead Mooney High to a 9-5 win over Warren Kennedy Saturday.
Kevin Drummond added two RBIs for the Cardinals, who sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the fourth.
Brandon Notar came off the bench and hit a double to break up a no-hitter for the Eagles in the fifth. John Michael Nicholas had two RBIs.
Niles 11-6, Lakeview 1-5
NILES -- Kyle Pitts had two hits and four RBIs and Mike Ruscitti had two hits for Niles (6-2) in the first game.
Brandon Miller scored three times for the Red Dragons.
The Red Dragons scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second game.
Robby Porter, the winning pitcher, went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Miller went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Howland 8, Liberty 0
HOWLAND -- The Tigers remained unbeaten (4-0) by scoring three runs in the first inning and three more in the fourth.
Tony Pozega collected two singles and scored three times to pace the Tigers. Ryan Kellar hit a pair of singles. Jared Bartholomew's two-run double in the first inning gave Howland the lead.
Brendan Solarz (1-0) worked six innings and struck out six to pick up the win.
Fitch 11, Canfield 10
AUSTINTOWN -- It took the Falcons eight innings to beat the Cardinals for the first time in eight years.
Fitch (5-2), behind 10-8, scored three times as Mike Brown led off with a double and was singled home by Dave Diyoro. Nick Ritchie and Joe Burnich each bunted safely to load the bases. Diyoro scored on an error as Charlie Olenych reached first, then Ritchie and Burnich were thrown at home on fielder's choices. Mo Hassen was then walked forcing in Olenych with the winning run.
Diyoro and Eliseo each went 3-for-5, with Eliseo driving in five runs.
Hubbard 19-13, Southeast 9-1
HUBBARD -- Hubbard, in the second game, scored seven runs in the first inning, five in the second and seven more in the fourth.
Ed Palestro hit a home run and a double to pace the Eagles (4-1). Josh Steponovich hit a pair of doubles and two singles. Frank Rosile hit a double and two singles.
Don King led the Pirates (1-5) with a home run and single. Marcus Watson hit two doubles.
In the first game, the Eagles scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Todd Jones led Hubbard with a home run and single and Rosile hit a pair of singles.
Brookfield 20-8,Jackson-Milton 7-7
NORTH JACKSON -- Ryan Coller and Rick Coller had two hits each, including doubles, for the Warriors in the first game. Matt Shields had three hits for the Bluejays while Mike Nagy and Bart McGee had two apiece.
In the second game, Nagy and Ryan Clawson led the Bluejays (4-4) with three hits while Shields had two.
Jeff Miller had three hits for the Warriors (5-1) and Ryan Logan and Mike Stanish had two apiece.
Crestview 10-12,South Range 5-9
COLUMBIANA -- The Rebels sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the fourth inning in the first game.
David Meyers went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead Crestview. Joe Marino and Tom DeChellis each hit two singles for the Raiders.
A seven-run third inning was the difference in the second game for the Rebels (3-2). Meyers went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Marino went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Raiders.
West Branch 12-3,Beaver Local 1-6
BELOIT -- J.R. Gibson and Jim King each hit two-run homers as West Branch (4-3) won the first game of a non-league doubleheader.
Marc Possage added two hits, including a double, for the Warriors. Andy Todor and Josh Winans had two singles each. Chad Kitzmiller allowed seven hits in a complete-game effort.
Josh Weese and Bobbie Flint each had two singles for the Beavers.
In the second game, Beaver Local's Robert Shannon threw a complete game, striking out five. He helped his cause with a double and three RBIs. Weese had two hits for the Beavers (5-1).
Gibson and Marc Possage had two singles each for West Branch.
