Township officials want answers from Rendell over funding issues

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Neshannock Township officials want to meet with state and county representatives to see about funding for sewer lines in a proposed high-technology business park.
Township Supervisor Chairman Gale Measel has asked state and county officials who represent Neshannock Township to meet with supervisors Wednesday. Measel and fellow township supervisors John DiCola Jr. and John Karmecy are concerned with funding problems created by the state.
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell promised $15 million in Capital Redevelopment Funding in the fall of 2003 to help fund the proposed Millennium Park. Rendell's promise was to have the site "shovel ready" in order to entice high-technology industrial business to the area.
Late in 2004, Rendell announced that the funding was no longer available. Measel said that with out the funding, the township will not be able to complete the sewer lines that were supposed to be part of the enticements for businesses to move into the park.
He said he would like to meet with all state-elected officials who represent the township so that the supervisors can express their concerns.
"We are hoping for some positive answers," Measel said.
