Man, woman of the year named at annual dinner
AUSTINTOWN -- Recognition of James E. Mauch as 2004 Saxon Man of the Year and Louetta Ann Stertzbach as Woman of the Year was the highlight of Youngstown Saxon Club's 29th annual benefit goulash dinner dance held April 2 at the club.
Dr. John Boehm, past president of Branch 30 Lodge, served as master of ceremonies. Chairwoman of the evening was Hildegard Dunkerley, past president of Branch 22 Lodge.
Pianist Jim Johnson provided entertainment during dinner, the Youngstown Connection performed, and dance music was provided by Johnny Oaks.
About the honorees
Mauch joined the club in 1980 and has been an officer for more than 15 years. Currently, he is president of Branch 30.
He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953 and from Youngstown State University in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in education, and he received his master's in education from Kent State University in 1963. He taught mathematics and coached athletics for West Farmington School System and Woodrow Wilson. He retired from Thomas Steel Strip Corp. in Warren in 1997 as a systems analyst.
Married 42 years, he and his wife, Helen, have three sons and four grandchildren. They are members of Zion Lutheran Church.
Stertzbach, who came to Youngstown in 1950 from Tacoma, Wash., graduated from Fitch High School in 1956 and attended Kent State University.
She retired from Home Savings and Loan in 2001 and operates her own floral business, "Flowers by Annie." Her decorating and arranging talents are seen at special events and holiday gatherings at the club. The mother of two sons, she has served as an officer for Branch 22 and held various committee assignments.
Presenting the awards were Mike Markel, first vice president of Branch 30, and Helen Fotiuk, Branch 22 president.
