PREP TRACK Cope Invitational hosts boys Saturday



The girls will be competing in East Palestine.

SALEM -- Some of the schools that participated in last week's track and field meets at Salem and East Palestine will switch sites this week.
At Salem's Reilly Stadium, 23 boys teams are entered today in the F.E. Cope Invitational. Preliminaries start at 4:30 p.m with finals at 6.
Last week's Cope meet was girls-only and last week's East Palestine Invitational was boys-only.
North Canton Hoover, Warren Harding, McDonald and Salem have veteran squads entered and the Quakers are counting on Paul Shiver (3200 meters), Lance Murphy (800), Ben Andre (hurdles), Tyler Pierce (high jump) and Drew Matak (long jump) to score points.
East Palestine Invitational
EAST PALESTINE -- Boardman's Michelle Bistrica and Brooke Katzman are two of the featured athletes entered in the 32nd East Palestine Invitational Saturday at East Palestine's Reid Stadium.
Seventeen schools will participate in the girls-only meet, including defending champ Shaker Heights. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. with finals at 11:30.
Bistrica, the defending 3200-meter champ, will compete in the 1600. Katzman will defend the shot put (38 feet, 1 inch).
Poland's Colleen Moran and Lauren Fithian will contend in the distance races. Samantha DiCello of East Palestine is the athlete to beat in the long jump. She leaped 15 feet, 4 inches at a dual meet Tuesday at United high. Autumn Parrish (14-11) of Boardman will contend
Rachelle Pavelko, Danielle Bova, Sarah Anderson and Fithian will be the foursome to beat in the 4x800 relay an event they won at last week's F.E. Cope girls invitational.
