PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP Springfield posts 4-1 win over W. Reserve



The Tigers used a three-run fifth inning to claim the ICL victory.
BERLIN CENTER -- Springfield High's Christy Warren went 3-for-3 with a double and Ashley Fagnano added a triple as the Tigers used a three-run fifth inning to upend Western Reserve 4-1 in an Inter-County League softball game Thursday.
Colleen Platt (2-0) pitched five shutout innings, striking out one, for the Tigers (5-1, 3-0).
Western Reserve is 3-2, 1-1.
Jackson-Milton 4, Mineral Ridge 2
NORTH JACKSON -- The Bluejays (4-2, 2-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off the Rams to prevail.
Winning pitcher Krista Kiraly (3-1) scattered six hits and struck out two. She also hit a pair of singles.
Chelsea Fridley paced the Rams (4-2, 1-1) with three singles.
Losing pitcher Kaili Gehring (4-2) gave up six hits and struck out seven.
Maplewood 2, McDonald 0
McDONALD -- Brittany Spencer had three hits and an RBI for Maplewood. Courtney Vitullo and Lindsey Urban each had a hit for the Blue Devils (1-4).
Lowellville 6, South Range 2
NORTH LIMA -- Carla Belinsky (1-3) allowed only three hits as she pitched a complete game, striking out nine, to pick up the win.
Casey Wilson hit a triple, two singles and drove in two runs for the Rockets (2-3, 2-1). Jacque Schrader collected three singles and Juli Peterson hit a double and single. Lindsay Wilson hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs.
Mooney 4, Warren JFK 2
WARREN -- Mooney, behind 2-0, scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning as Stefanie Grimaldi walked and Mallory Ucchino came in as pinch-runner. A sacrifice bunt moved her to second and when JFK didn't cover third, Ucchino raced to third and scored on an overthrow past third. Dana Plazzo reached base on an error and moved to second on DiAndra Dibacco's bunt single. Both runners moved up a base on a passed ball and then scored on a double by Mara Palombaro.
JFK (1-2) took the lead in the first inning on a two-run double by Amy Mills.
Grimaldi worked four innings in relief, allowed a hit and struck out five to pick up the win.
Ursuline 4, Hubbard 0
HUBBARD -- Maureen Cearfoss tossed a two-hit shutout for the Irish.
Natalie Palermo had two hits and drove in two runs for Ursuline (3-2). Ashley Koval added two hits for the winners.
Cearfoss struck out five and didn't walk a batter. Tressa Seahill took the loss for Hubbard (2-1).
Boardman 1, Massillon Perry 0
BOARDMAN -- Boardman pitcher Ashley DiDomenico pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits while striking out five as the Spartans (5-2, 1-1) won a Federal League game.
Sarah Albani scored the lone run in the fourth, reaching on a fielder's choice, advancing to second on a passed ball and third on a single by Addie Carothers. Emily Hays hit an RBI single to score Albani.
Perry is 1-1, 1-1.
Fitch 2, Canton McKinley 1
AUSTINTOWN -- Fitch pitcher Jennifer Purnell (2-1) gave up three hits over seven innings, striking out nine, and added an RBI double for the Falcons (2-1, 1-1).
Kara Warren doubled, Kate Ferree had an RBI and Brittany Ellis scored the go-ahead run in the second inning.
Struthers 10, Liberty 5
STRUTHERS -- Amanda Ruozzo had three hits and drove in four runs, while Sam Ditman added two hits and three RBIs as Struthers rolled to its first victory.
Michelle High pitched the first five innings to record the victory, while Michelle Zanni tossed the final inning.
Zanni had a double and Halle Minchin-Skook tripled for the Wildcats (1-4). Liberty (0-2) got a double from Ashley Hackett.
Champion 3, Howland 1
HOWLAND -- Alyshia Brink had two hits, including a double, and Paige Prater had two RBIs for Champion (6-0).
Jackie Knepp added two hits for the Flashes and Hillary Beachy had a double.
Lakeview 1, Jefferson 0
CORTLAND -- Lakeview's Brittney Bucco went 3-for-5 and hit the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 10th to score Michelle Antonelli, who started the inning at second base due to the international tiebreaker.
Freshman Kailynn Cerny went the distance, striking out three and walking two for the Bulldogs (3-1).
Jefferson is 0-2.
Columbiana 11, Southern 0
SALINEVILLE -- Stacie Cross had three hits and Cara Hardenbrook added a triple for Columbiana in a Tri-County League game. Kayla Seybert pitched a complete game three-hitter.
Hannah Crews had five strikeouts for Southern.
Carrollton 3, West Branch 2
CARROLLTON -- Vana Morgan had two hits and Allison Edie had a double for the Warriors (2-4, 0-4) in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Carrollton is 5-3, 1-2.
