Input sought on bridge job
The Suspension Bridge was built in 1895.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mill Creek MetroParks is soliciting public comment on a proposed $190,400 project to rehabilitate the Suspension Bridge in Mill Creek Park.
The bridge was constructed in 1895 by the Youngstown Bridge Co. and supported in 1973 with the addition of new steel I-beams and a concrete pier.
Work on the project will include priming and painting the bridge; replacement of missing or damaged items, including railing and bridge framework; removal and replacement of timber-plank sidewalk decking; cleaning and repointing of stone masonry; cleaning and patching of concrete structures; and construction of new asphalt concrete approaches.
The project, scheduled for construction in 2006, will receive 80 percent funding through a Federal Highway Administration Transportation Enhancement Act program.
A public presentation will be given at the upcoming MetroParks Board of Park Commissioners meeting at 7 p.m. April 18 at the MetroParks Farm in Canfield. Written comments can be submitted through May 20 to the MetroParks at P.O. Box 596, Canfield, OH 44406.
