LONDON -- The BBC has admitted being "very embarrassed" after requesting an interview with Bob Marley -- 24 years after the singer died. The corporation asked to speak to the late reggae star, who died of cancer at age 36, for a documentary on his hit song "No Woman No Cry," reports Ananova.com. In an e-mail sent to the Bob Marley Foundation, the BBC said the interview would involve the Jamaican reggae legend "spending one or two days with us." It added that the story, an hourlong show that was designed to follow a similar documentary on BBC3 on Queen's song "Bohemian Rhapsody," "would only work with some participation from Bob Marley himself." The BBC said it had apologized to the Marley Foundation, which had been "extremely good humored" about the blunder.
Lifetime achievementaward goes to Loren
ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Film legend Sophia Loren received a lifetime achievement award at the opening of the Istanbul Film Festival. "I feel surrounded by love," Loren said over the weekend. She said she would place the award next to her Oscars. Loren won a best actress Oscar in 1961 for "Two Women" and an Oscar for career achievement in 1991. Loren was the guest of honor at the festival which ends April 17. Thirteen international films are competing for the festival's Golden Tulip Award. They include "Beyond the Sea," in which Kevin Spacey directed himself as 1950s crooner Bobby Darin, and "Untold Scandal," a Korean version of the novel "Les Liasons Dangereuses." The festival kicked off with the screening of "Ladies in Lavender," in which Judy Dench and Maggie Smith portray two spinsters in a post-World Ward II British fishing village who take in a mysterious young Polish man they find half-drowned on a beach.
'Survivor' tribe down to 2
NEW YORK -- Maybe they should change their name to U-lose. As of Thursday's episode, the Ulong tribe is the losingest tribe in "Survivor" history, having failed every immunity challenge on the Palau-set edition of the CBS reality show. "I'm still kind of boggled by it," Ibrehem Rahman told The Associated Press Friday. "It might have been some sort of Palau ghost or something working against us. Who knows?" Rahman, one of three remaining Ulong members, was the latest victim of the losing streak -- and a voting flip-flop. Despite Rahman's hush-hush alliance with Bobby Jon Drinkard from the start of the show, both Drinkard and Stephenie LaGrossa cast their votes against him.
Hogan relishes induction
LOS ANGELES -- Hulk Hogan, relishing his weekend induction into the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame, figures he's earned it. "To me, it's huge to be part of the Hall of Fame because I was there from day one when this business went from small-time to big-time," Hogan said. He had tough times starting out in the 1970s, he said, even sleeping in his car. Then he joined Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation as it was beginning to expand from local to national TV distribution in the early '80s. Hogan got to be part of the venture's evolution from a "small-time carnival atmosphere to a huge multibillion-dollar entertainment force in the world," he told The Associated Press. The renamed WWE Inc., now headed by Vince McMahon Jr., staged "WrestleMania 21" at the Staples Center on Sunday.
