TRUMBULL
Mesopotamia: Get "Lost in Space" in a corn maze this fall. In the maze you will find all nine planets, plus the sun. Children can participate in a treasure hunt in the maze and receive a NASA coloring book.Find the first Sputnik in 1957.The maze will be open to the general public now until Oct. 31. The four-acre corn maze is designed to teach children of all ages about space travel as they get "Lost in Space." "We got the idea for this year's corn maze theme after the Rover landed on Mars last year," explained Sharon Grover, owner of Ridgeview Farm."If you don't get lost, a trip through the maze can be done in less than a half-hour," explained Steve Grover. The Grovers' children and friends lend a hand to help participants find their way.Ridgeview Farm has worked with NASA to place a space time line in the corn maze. "I believe this maze is the trickiest maze we have had yet," said Steve Grover.The corn maze will be open to the general public seven days a week beginning this weekend.The farm also offers fall fun weekends every Saturday and Sunday, which also includes the maze, hayrides, pick your own pumpkins, petting zoo, Amish bake stand and themed Saturdays. The hayloft learning center will be open for folks to visit on Saturdays. The hayloft has a mock Amish house where visitors can get acquainted with the Amish culture.There is no admission charge to the farm. Cost is $5 per person. Non-haunted hayrides will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at $2 per person. Refreshments available including hot dogs cooked over a bonfire. All proceeds benefit Hartford Youth groups and organizations.
MAHONING
Canfield: Ghost Lights of Halloween, a drive-through, haunted, entertainment event for families with children, to experience in their own cars at Yellow Duck Park on state Route 46, between Canfield and Columbiana. This will be held every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning today through October. Hours are dusk until 9 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays and from dusk until 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Cost is $6 per person or $35 per carload up to eight people. Free for children under 5 years old. Coupons for free driver's admission or $10 off the carload admission are available at most Burger King and Dairy Queen restaurants and all sponsor locations. It will begin at 6 p.m. with the mummy wrap for families followed by the pie-eating contest for adults. Jocko the Clown will entertain at 6:30 p.m. The magical costume competition begins at 7 p.m. with a new category, Dress Your Pet. Owners will escort their costumed dog, cat, hamster or other favorite animal across the Morley stage. At 7:15 p.m., costumed children of all ages will get their moment in the spotlight as they compete for prizes. There will be special animal guests and free candy for children. Held at the Judge Morley Pavilion in Wick Recreation Area of Mill Creek MetroParks.Boardman: 27th annual Witch Walk at The Woods, in front of Glenwood Middle School, from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17, 23 and 24 is sponsored by Boardman High School students in art, graphics, photography, yearbook staff and art awareness with Art Department Chairman Carl Rubino and teachers, Edie Davidson, Thom Fecik and Lori Szoke. SpongeBob SquarePants is returning with the Tasmanian Devil, Baby Bop, Barney, E.T. and Mickey Mouse and others. Special effects with lights and lighted pumpkins will illuminate the trail.Admission is $2 per person. Children under 3 are free.
Youngstown: A pumpkin-carving workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 23 at the Davis Center of Fellows Riverside Gardens. Children ages 6 and up with their adult partners will carve pumpkins to display at the Pumpkin Walk on Oct. 24. Sample tasty pumpkin treats and take home a sugar pumpkin.
