DEVELOPMENT Housing projects are designated



SALEM -- The Ohio Department of Development has announced how three area communities will use the $555,000 they have been awarded for housing projects.
Salem and East Liverpool in Columbiana County and Niles in Trumbull County were awarded the funds Tuesday.
Salem will rehabilitate five and repair seven owner-occupied homes, provide nine households with tenant-based rental assistance, and seven households with down-payment and rehabilitation assistance.
Salem will also provide 20 households with home-buyer counseling and construct two homes with the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
East Liverpool will rehabilitate five and repair seven owner-occupied homes, provide nine households with tenant-based rental assistance and seven households with down-payment and rehabilitation assistance. The city will also provide 20 households with home-buyer counseling and construct two homes with the local Habitat for Humanity.
Niles will repair six and rehabilitate eight owner-occupied homes and rehabilitate five rental properties. The city will also provide down-payment assistance, rehabilitation assistance and home-buyer counseling to three households, and test 14 homes for lead-based paint.
