Suggs gets clearance to return to practice

If the running back doesn't have any setbacks, he will play against Washington.
BEREA (AP) -- Lee Suggs is actually looking forward to running away from NFL linebackers. He hasn't had much luck breaking free from doctors lately.
The Browns' running back, who has missed Cleveland's first three games with a neck stinger, has been granted medical clearance to practice at full speed this week.
As long as there are no setbacks, the speedy second-year back from Virginia Tech expects to make his season debut Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
Team struggling
So do the Browns (1-2), who are coming off a 27-10 loss Sunday to the New York Giants. Cleveland's offense has struggled because of inconsistency and injuries, and Suggs thinks he can provide a much-needed spark.
"We need something in there," Suggs said. "Except for a few times in the second half [against New York], the offense really wasn't clicking."
Suggs' injury has been somewhat of a mystery since he sustained it during practice a few days before the Browns' final exhibition game.
The team expected Suggs to return much sooner, but he doesn't have enough strength to satisfy team doctors to let him play. They're afraid he couldn't protect himself.
The Browns sent Suggs to see a specialist in New York earlier this month and there have been conflicting reports as to whether he is suffering from stenosis, a narrowing of spaces in the spine.
Suggs was asked if he also has a herniated disc in his neck.
"You're asking the wrong person," he said.
It's been a frustrating few weeks for Suggs, who missed the first nine games in 2003 with a shoulder injury before breaking out for 186 yards and two touchdowns in the season finale against Cincinnati.
