VINDICATOR NEW CASTLE BUREAU
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County commissioners say they hope to have the new public safety-emergency management director in place by late October.
Until that time, commissioners have appointed Jim Gagliano, county planning director, to oversee the operations of the emergency management office. Emergency Management Director Sharyn Critchlow is retiring Thursday.
Commissioners, however, have asked Critchlow to return to work if there are any emergencies. They passed a resolution Tuesday night to enter into negotiations with Critchlow for a short-term contract. The amount she will be paid has not been determined.
Commissioner Steve Craig said they have decided to look at the structure of all of the county's emergency management operations. The public safety-911 director's position has been vacant since April 2, when Frank Jannetti left the county to work for Mercer County.
New panel
Commissioner Dan Vogler said they formed a committee that is looking into combining the public safety-911 and emergency management positions into one.
Those on the committee are Neshannock Township Fire Chief John DiCola, Mahoning Township Fire Chief Poncho Exposito, Ellwood City Police Chief William Betz, and Tina Marshall, county emergency medical services coordinator.
Vogler said they are reviewing more than 60 r & eacute;sum & eacute;s they received for the new position.
