Boardman cross-country teams sweep titles in Mahoning meet
BOARDMAN -- The Boardman High School boys and girls cross country teams won Mahoning County championships Tuesday at the Spartans' 5,000-meter course.
Brothers Jake (17 minutes, 6 seconds) and Rick (17:12) Lape paced Boardman as it won the boys crown with 46 points.
South Range senior Dan Nemergut placed first with a time of 16:45.34. Mooney's Colin Durina of Mooney (17:00) finished second as the Cardinals placed second with 62 points.
Katie Stole of Boardman took first place (20:49.9) as the Spartans won the girls title with 42 points. Canfield was a close second with 47.
Ursuline's Tiffani Miller (21:10) finished second while Canfield's Regina Bresson (21:13.5) and Lauren Esarco (21:20.7) were third and fourth, respectively.
McDonald captures 2 titles
BROOKFIELD -- Joe Copploe took first place in 17 minutes, 25 seconds and Aaron Thornton (17:38) finished second as the McDonald boys captured the Trumbull County cross country championship at Yankee Lake.
Aaron Titus came in third (17:42) as Badger placed second out of 14 schools with 100 points.
In the girls run, McDonald scored 34 points. Maplewood was second with 58 and Lakeview was third with 66.
Samantha Bonar of Badger placed first (21:02), while Lakeview's Nicole Taddie (21:16) and Katie Scannell (21:27) finished second and third. McDonald's Ashleigh Tondo (21:36) and Erin Koppel (21:38) finished four-five.
