TRUMBULL COUNTY Warrant is issued for woman
The bus driver told the former student to get off the bus, officials said.
HOWLAND -- A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a woman accused of threatening a student on a school bus.
The school board Monday discussed the problem that occurred Sept. 15 on the morning No. 10 bus high school run.
A former student, Stacy Harmon, 18, is accused of boarding the bus at Woodbine Avenue and Evergreen Avenue, approaching a 16-year-old male student and threatening his safety. The bus driver, Charlene Humanik, told her to leave and promptly called authorities.
Harmon left, and Humanik drove to Howland High School and met there with police.
Statements were taken, and a surveillance tape was removed from the bus.
Charge
Howland police say they issued a warrant for Harmon, charging her with one count of criminal trespassing.
According to Warren Municipal Court records, on Sept. 16, Howland police also filed an unrelated charge of receiving stolen property against Harmon. She has not yet been arraigned.
Superintendent John Rubesich said he and the board are doing all they can to prevent another such occurrence. He said buses are equipped with cameras, and bus drivers carry cell phones.
If there's trouble, the driver should contact authorities immediately.
All of the schools have protocols to follow for emergencies, including a lock-down, which is when school authorities close all entrances to the school and safeguard all students and faculty. In the event of a lock-down, no one is permitted to enter or leave until the authorities have contained the problem.
