DEMOCRATS Kerry backers bash Bush in rally at abandoned mill

They said the president's policies have cost Ohio 231,000 jobs.
STRUTHERS -- About 35 supporters of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry -- steel workers, ironworkers, representatives from the AFL-CIO, canvassers and volunteers -- turned out in front of an abandoned and crumbling steel mill this morning to rally support against President Bush and his economic policies.
The supporters say these policies have resulted in the loss of 231,000 jobs in Ohio, including 25,000 steel jobs.
Wearing ACT T-shirts -- America Coming Together -- which organized the rally, the supporters cheered as Gary Steinbeck, sub-district director of the United Steelworkers of America, and Larry Fauver, president of the local AFL-CIO, bashed Bush and his policies.
"We're losing jobs as we speak," Steinbeck said. "We have plants moving offshore."
The few new jobs that have been created, he said, are at places such as Wal-Mart.
"Places like Wal-Mart are not going to create jobs where you can afford to buy a house and a car. What kind of future is this for our young people?" Steinbeck asked.
"We're not going to take it any more," Fauver said. "We want somebody who is going to stand up for the working man and woman. Getting out to vote is a big issue."
