CANFIELD -- A road paving program has once again hit the skids.
Township trustees voted 2-1 at their meeting Monday to approve transferring $56,202 from the general fund to the road fund. Just as they had done at their Sept. 13 meeting, Trustees Paul Moracco and William Reese approved; Trustee Judy Bayus dissented. Trustees must unanimously agree before the paving project can move forward.
The money would be part of a $122,264 project to pave Barber, Orlando Drive, St. Andrews and Summit drives, and St. Andrews Court.
Sewer installation
Bayus said she dissented because a sanitary sewer was being installed and heavy equipment on Summit Drive would tear up the road. The paving should begin after the sewer project is completed, she contended.
Residents of various streets can still petition trustees to have their roads paved, explained the township clerk, Carmen Heasley. Residents of more than half of the homes on a street would have to sign the petition for work to be done on that street. Approving such petitions does not require a unanimous vote of trustees.
Hazardous waste collection
In other business, Heasley announced that people will have an opportunity to dispose of hazardous materials from their homes. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection, sponsored by Mahoning County Green Team, will give people a chance to get rid of nonlatex paint, bleach, pesticides, pool chemicals and numerous other products. No explosives or tires will be accepted at the collection, set for Oct. 16 at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Residents whose last names begin with A through F can drop off materials from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. that day. Those whose names begin with G through N can drop off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and O through Z from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Little League proclamations
Trustees congratulated and handed out proclamations to several members of the Little League Baseball Junior League, 13-14 years. The team is the 2004 Ohio State Champions.
In other business, Moracco said trick or treat in the township will be 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 31.
