MAHONING VALLEY Red Cross sets deadline for hero nominations



BOARDMAN -- Nov. 12 is the deadline for submitting nominations for the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross' second annual Heroes of the Mahoning Valley Award.
The event to honor local heroes who have performed extraordinary acts of courage, donated countless hours to the betterment of the community, or have shown an unusual kindness and unselfish character through their actions, is Jan. 15, 2005, Red Cross officials said.

Nomination categories are:
UFirefighter.
ULaw enforcement.
UMedical.
UGood neighbor (over 21).
UYouth Samaritan (under 21).
UAnimal (human caregiver or animal hero).
UWorkplace safety.
UEducator.
UCommunity impact (involvement in a project that impacts the community).
The heroic act must have been performed between Sept. 1, 2003, and Sept. 1, 2004, and must have taken place in the Red Cross Mahoning Chapter's jurisdiction, which is Mahoning County, Hubbard, Liberty and Girard.
Nominations must be submitted on official forms, which can be accessed on the chapter's Web site at mahoning.redcross.org or by calling (330) 726-6063. Nominees must follow rules and guidelines and must attend the breakfast to accept the award, officials said.
