Volant prepares for annual pumpkin festival



VOLANT, Pa. -- Main Street in the village will be alive with the sights and sounds of fall as it once again hosts the annual Autumn Pumpkin Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
This year's festival will introduce several new events while continuing to offer old favorites. There will be hayrides, pumpkin painting, apple-butter making, a farmers harvest market, food and shopping.
New this year will be a chili cook-off and a scarecrow-making contest. The chili cook-off will be at the Volant Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the fire department also will be selling desserts and beverages.
The scarecrow-making contest is open to school groups, church groups, scout troops, clubs or individuals. Cash prizes will be awarded.
Scarecrows will be placed throughout the village and all those enjoying the festival will be able to vote for their favorite.
