SOCCER Juchno lifts Poland past Canfield



Champion's John Emery netted his 20th goal in a 3-1 win over Howland.
CANFIELD -- Chris Juchno scored twice as the Poland High soccer team defeated Canfield, 2-1, Saturday in the completion of a weather-suspended game.
Dain Malaniak assisted on Juchno's first goal and Stephen Gavolas on the second. Poland (8-0-2, 5-0-1 Metro Athletic Conference) goalkeeper Caleb Markusic made eight saves.
Adam Jones scored Canfield's goal on a penalty kick. Mike Musilli had 15 saves for the Cardinals.
Champion 3, Howland 1
HOWLAND -- Champion senior John Emery scored his 20th goal of the season and teammate Max Brugler had two assists to break the Flashes' single-season school assist record with 14.
Brugler's brother, Craig, had 13 last year.
Emery, who set the school scoring record last year with 30 goals, added an assist. Chris Palm and Brett Sulonen had goals for the Flashes (7-0-3). Rich Slama had six saves.
Malik Mohammad scored on a penalty kick for Howland (6-3-1), who trailed 2-0 at halftime. Zack Roscoe had eight saves.
Salem 9, Niles 4
NILES -- Senior Hank Loudon scored four goals, senior Tomas Lebiedzik scored three goals and seniors Dom Gilbey and Keith Getzinger had one apiece for the Quakers (5-3-1).
The makeup game was carried over from last week when lightning postponed the start.
Lebiedzik had two assists while Gilbey, Getzinger and Aimon Scullion each had one.
Justice Pash made eight saves in goal for Salem. Nathan Mang scored three goals while Ted Sloban had the fourth for Niles.

STRUTHERS -- Kiki Willis scored two goals and Zack Hernan had one for the Cardinals (7-0-1). Dom DiPasquale and Kevin Miller added assists, while Jeff Sesson had three saves and Jason Franko had one.
Mathews 1, Bloomfield 0
VIENNA -- Josh Marquette scored a goal and Brittany Seman added the assist to lead Mathews in a Northeast Athletic Conference soccer match. Mathews ( 2-4-1 and 1-2) goalkeeper Brett Ford had 19 saves in posting his second shutout of the season.
Bloomfield (1-8-0 and 0-5) goalkeeper Buddy Roby had seven saves.
Girls
WARREN -- Ajay Candella and Lafaye lilly scored goals as the Warren Harding High girls soccer team defeated Maplewood, 2-0.
Taylor Cribley had an assist for the Raiders while goalkeeper Stephanie Cross made five saves.
Rockets goalkeeper Bonnee Clute made 14 saves.

WARREN -- Emily Akers scored for the Knights (5-2-4). Assisting was Ali Jonas. JFK (6-5) goalkeeper Jackie Lombardi made nine saves.
