NOTEBOOK | Youngstown State University vs. Liberty

Disappointing crowd: The announced attendance figure of 14,958 would have been nice had it been accurate. There must have been at least 4,000 no shows and crowd counters might have included the Poland High band which took up about half of the crowd in the East stands.
New scoreboard: Fans did get a treat as the new YSU scoreboard was in complete operation and might have been a better show than the Penguins. Video replays, live field action and all sorts of notes and statistics were made available to the fans throughout the contest.
Gibson impressive: There have been quite a few YSU players who have had three consecutive 100-plus yards rushing games over the year, but not many in their first three games ever with the Penguins like sophomore Monquantae Gibson. The record for consecutive 100-yard games is five set by Dave Kimmel in 1956.
Defensive stats: The Penguins were led by redshirt freshman defensive back Dorian Chenault, who had 11 total tackles, including a pass breakup. Redshirt freshman linebacker James Terry finished with nine tackles and one forced fumble, while senior Mike Bracken and sophomore Jeremiah Wright each totaled seven. Senior Matt Briggs and senior Justin Martin each had four tackles, two of which were for losses. The Penguins had nine tackles for losses, but just one quarterback sack.
Special teams: The Penguins averaged over 25 yards on four kickoff returns with sophomore Tyler Morton leading the way with 81 yards on two including a 37 yarder. Senior Nick Terracina kicked two field goals of 42 and 35, while missing from 49 yards. He is now 7-of-9 on the season. His first four kickoffs were all deep or out of the end zone and the two that were returned never got past the 20-yard line.
Up next: The Penguins will travel to Bowling Green, Ky., this Saturday to meet Western Kentucky in their Gateway Conference opener. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised live by WFMJ Channel 21.
