MAC ROUNDUP Poland rolls past Niles, 24-6
Jim Shurilla led the Bulldogs to their first victory; Salem defeated Struthers.
POLAND -- Jim Shurilla had 30 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns as the Poland High football team rolled up 211 yards on the ground en route to a 24-6 win over visiting Niles on Friday.
Jim Kozlow added eight carries for 54 yards for the Bulldogs (1-4, 1-2), who scored 21 points in the second half. Dom Marchionda was 2 of 7 for 29 yards. Kozlow and John Haug had interceptions for the Bulldog defense.
Tyler Taylor had 13 rushes for 45 yards for Niles (1-4, 0-1), which had 142 yards on the ground. Jared Sears added 12 carries for 49 yards. Niles had just 14 yards passing.
An official fell ill during the game and was taken to St. Elizabeth's. A hospital spokesperson said the illness was unrelated to the game.

SALEM -- Grant Sevek ran 23 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns as Salem built a 23-7 lead en route to its first league win of the season.
Quakers quarterback Mark Kolich added a 6-yard touchdown pass to wideout Jarin Heath for Salem (3-2, 1-2). Bryan Right had two field goals, including a 32-yarder with 2:14 left that sealed the victory.
Larry Wylie had 10 carries for 61 yards and Justin Penson added 12 for 58 yards for the Wildcats (1-4, 0-1). Eric Anderson caught a 12-yard TD pass from Mike Duponty, who completed 11 of 27 for 127 yards and two interceptions. Ty Campana added four catches for 36 yards.
