Looking for hosts for foreign students
ASSE International, a nonprofit student exchange program, is looking for local representatives to help find and interview people in western Pennsylvania who are interested in housing a foreign exchange student in their home. The families would act as counselors for their house guest during the year. Interested persons can contact ASSE by calling (800) 677-2773 or visiting the agency's Web site at www.asse.com.
'Light the Night Walk'
The local version of The Leukemia & amp; Lymphoma Society's "Light the Night Walk" will take place Oct. 16 at Buhl Farm Park in Hermitage. The walk is a fund-raising event, and participants are encouraged to get sponsors to back them on the two-mile route. Walk teams are also encouraged. Registration is set for 5:30 p.m. and will feature entertainment, food and games. The walk starts at 7:30 p.m. on a route that will be marked by illuminated red and white balloons. Former Sharon Mayor Robert T. Price will serve as walk chairman. To register, call (800) 726-2873.
Meeting to address flooding
Those affected by recent flooding from the Connoquenessing Creek are invited to a meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Franklin Township Fire Hall. Kathleen McGinty, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, will be present.
Pulaski Twp. gets grant
State Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle, D-9th, announced that Pulaski Township has been awarded a sewage facilities planning grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The grant will be used to reimburse the township for 50 percent of its costs in preparing the authority's official sewage plan as required by state law. Under the law, municipalities are required to develop and implement comprehensive official sewage plans that address sewage disposal needs or problems, account for future land development and provide for future sewage disposal needs.
