"It's Alive @ Your Library." Celebrate Teen Read Week 2004 -- reach into your innermost core of artistic talent and create a scary, spine-tingling or mysterious work of art to submit to the IT'S ALIVE! Art Contest. The contest is being held from Oct. 1-31. During that time, you can submit your drawing, painting, sketch, photography, computer-generated artwork, etc. on paper no larger than 11" x 17" to any library in Mahoning County. Make sure your name, telephone number, and grade are on the back. Prizes will be awarded to one winner and one runner-up in each of three categories: grades 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12.
"Spiders in the Hairdo." Come listen to and share urban legends like the "Vanishing Hitchhiker" and the "Plant's Revenge" for grades 7-12 at Austintown, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19.
"3rd Annual 'Celebrate the Arts' at Boardman Library." Enjoy artwork by Boardman area students in grades 7-12 at this special art show at Boardman, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Refreshments will be served.
"Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Bring a friend to view this classic science fiction/horror movie for grades 7-12 at 3 p.m. at Canfield, Oct. 4, and Sebring, Oct. 5. Refreshments will be served.
"Name That Candy Bar." If you can name all seven candy bars correctly, you will receive a six-pack of one of them. One prize will be awarded each week for grades 7-12 at Poland, the month of October.
"Teen Coffeehouse." Read your own poetry, rap or song lyric; or read your favorite poem from a book; or just snack and listen to others perform for grades 7-12 at Poland, 2 p.m. Oct. 23. Refreshments will be served.
"Horror Flick Night." Enjoy clips from the original Frankenstein, Wolf Man and others for grades 7-12 at Main, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 26; and West, 4 p.m. Oct. 20.

"Excel Basics." Introduction to the spreadsheet component of Microsoft Office. Learn how to navigate in Excel and create and modify a simple Excel file at Main, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 28. Must have taken a basic computer class or be proficient with the mouse.
"Internet Mini-Series Part 1." This class introduces the Internet and World Wide Web at Main, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 4; and West, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 21. Must have taken a basic computer class or be proficient with the mouse.
"Internet Mini-Series Part 2." Continues the exploration of the Internet via the library's web site at Main, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 11; and West, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 28.
"PowerPoint Mini-Series Part 1." An introduction to PowerPoint, a presentation program, participants will learn specialized terminology and about blank presentation, templates and Auto Wizard at Main, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 14; and Boardman, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19. Must be very proficient with the mouse.
"PowerPoint Mini-Series Part 2." Class builds upon skills learned in PowerPoint 1 at Main, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 21; and Boardman, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26. Must be very proficient with the mouse.
"Word Processing Mini-Series Part 1." "Lunch & amp; Learn at the Library: Women of the Civil War." History springs to life when Charen Fink models her authentic Civil War era wardrobe, illustrating the manners and activities of women of that time. She describes their education, work, social life, health practices, and mourning customs, as well as their service in the Civil War. She includes trivia not found in history books and explains 19th-century artifacts. This promises a new look at the role of women, at Main, noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 12. Take a brown bag lunch; coffee will be provided.
"Small Business Seminar." If owning a business is in the near future or further along the timeline, join SCORE and the Library for a Small Business Seminar.
