Huskies roll past BG, 34-17

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- After Northern Illinois lost starting tailback A.J. Harris to a sprained left ankle late in the second quarter, Garrett Wolfe filled in admirably, leading the Huskies to a 34-17 victory Friday night over Bowling Green.
After finishing the first half with minus two-yards rushing, Wolfe ran for a career-high 202 yards on 31 carries while scoring three touchdowns.
Once Chris Nednick's 25-yard field goal gave the Huskies (2-2, 1-0) a 10-7 lead early in the third-quarter, Wolfe's 42-yard and 21-yard touchdown runs gave them a 24-10 lead by the end of that quarter.
Then, with 14:47 remaining in the game, Wolfe carried 14 times for 75 yards to lead the Huskies on a 16-play, 81-yard drive, which he capped off with an 8-yard touchdown run to give them a 31-10 lead with 6:07 remaining.
Harris finished with 13 carries for 46 yards and one touchdown while Phil Horvath went 16 for 23 for 191 yards for Northern Illinois. Omar Jacobs finished 29-for-42 for 275 yards for Bowling Green (1-2, 0-1).
Missed opportunities
The score was knotted at seven at halftime as both teams couldn't take advantage of scoring opportunities.
After Omar Jacobs capped off the Falcons opening drive with a one-yard touchdown run, Bowling Green drove down the field on its next possession, but Shaun Suisham's 41-yard field goal was blocked.
After Northern Illinois took the ball and marched down the field, Harris' 2-yard plunge tied the score at seven. On their next drive, the Huskies took the ball all the way down to the Bowling Green one, but Wolfe could not punch the ball in on fourth down.
