Freedom Fund banquet set Oct. 8

GIRARD -- The Youngstown Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will hold its 95th annual Freedom Fund banquet at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St.
The keynote speaker will be Paula Brown-Edme, the director of the national office branch and field services department. This year's theme is "The Race is On."

Background
The Youngstown branch has worked in the Mahoning Valley since 1919. The civil rights organization has served as a catalyst for positive social change, justice and equality.
The national organization is the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the United States. Its objective is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens.
Local NAACP branches are nonprofit. There are some 2,200 branches across the country.
