'Eternal Sunshine' hits DVD, VHS

Completely erasing a memory from the mind -- that horrendous blind date or the argument that ended a relationship -- may be tempting, but Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) learns the old adage is true: "You have to take the good with the bad."
"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is available Tuesday from Universal Studios (DVD $29.98, VHS $22.98).
The DVD extras include deleted scenes, conversations with Carrey and director Michel Gondry, and commentary from screenwriter Charlie Kaufman ("Adaptation," "Being John Malkovich").
The movie surrounds the tumultuous relationship of Barish and Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet), a woman who decides to have all memories of her boyfriend erased from her mind.
When Barish discovers what his girlfriend has done, he decides to reciprocate. However, as each memory disappears, he realizes he is still in love with her and wants to hold on to what he remembers.
Washington Post critic Ann Hornaday described the movie as "ingenious, exhilarating, funny and profound."
She wrote, "'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' is a rabbit hole of a movie, inviting viewers on a dizzying plunge through love, loss and, finally, consciousness itself."
