BOWLING Haefke has top average in U.S.

GREENDALE, Wis. -- Austintown's Teri Haefke completed the 2003-04 season with a 238 average to earn the Women's International Bowling
Congress' national high average award.
Haefke, 24, established her high average in the WIBC-sanctioned Wedgewood Ladies Trio league at Wedgewood Lanes. Her average was the best of 1,157,308 WIBC members around the United States.
& quot;I'm ecstatic to have earned this award, & quot; Haefke said. & quot;Winning it was one of my goals. This has definitely been one of my better seasons. & quot;
Her 238 average is the second-highest in WIBC history. Jodi Musto, Schenectady, N.Y., established the highest average, 240, during the 1998-99 season.
Set Ohio record
Haefke also took home the Ohio Queens tournament title, and her 238 average broke the state's record during the 2003-04 season. She began bowling at age 6 when her father introduced her to the sport. Now, she bowls or practices six nights a week.
& quot;Bowling is a mindset. You have to have it in your heart and really want to do it, & quot; Haefke said. & quot;Practice makes perfect. & quot;
Women's International Bowling Congress WIBC is the world's oldest and largest women's sports membership organization with nearly 1.2 million members. WIBC's mission is to identify and fulfill the needs of women bowlers.
