Italian priest to speak
YOUNGSTOWN -- Father Bernardino Giuseppe Bucci, of Bari, Italy, will speak Oct. 15 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 252 E. Wood St. Father Bucci, a Tribunal Member and Promoter of the Faith for the Postulation for the Cause of Beatification of Luisa Piccarreta, will speak at 7 p.m. Mass will be at 6:30 p.m. Father Bucci will speak about Piccarreta and the cause for her beatification.
Animals to be blessed
CAMPBELL -- St. Joseph the Provider Church, 633 Porter Ave., will celebrate Blessing of the Animals and Pets at 11 a.m. next Saturday on the church grounds. The traditional blessing of animals celebrates the life of St. Francis of Assisi. For information, call (330) 755-0266.

Focus on social issues
YOUNGSTOWN -- "Faith in the Public Square," a presentation on the role of Catholic social teaching and political responsibility in light of the coming election, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Newman Center at Youngstown State University, 254 Madison Ave. Sunday Liturgy will be at 6 p.m. Speakers will be Brian Corbin, executive director of Catholic Charities Services and director of Social Action, and Melinda Knight, director of the diocesan Office of Pro-Life Activities.
Praise Luncheon planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christian Women United is hosting a Praise Luncheon titled "Empowering Women to Fulfill Their Purpose" at 11 a.m. Oct. 9 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, S.P. Phillips Fellowship Hall, 707 Arlington St. The theme is, "It's All in the Praise: Tearing Down the Strongholds." The Rev. Cynthia Wright of Elizabeth Baptist will speak. Cost is $10.
Ensemble to perform
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Centenary United Methodist Church usher board and choir will sponsor a concert at 4 p.m. Oct. 10 in the church at 1413 Belmont Ave. The program will feature a 24-voice concert ensemble directed by Arnold Wagner and composed of singers from various churches throughout Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Accompanying the concert ensemble will be the Archangel Dancers under the direction of Karen Green. Alton Merrell Jr., minister of music at New Jerusalem Fellowship Church in Warren, will be guest artist.

Christian rock concert
GIRARD -- The DIG Project, a modern Christian rock band from Rochester, N.Y., will give a free concert at 7 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, 78 E. Liberty St. The DIG Project has just completed a two-month, 32-concert tour performing for thousands in the East and Midwest. The group has a contract with Word Of Mouth Records and recently released its first CD, "This World We Know." There will be a free-will offering. Refreshments will be served. The Girard Clergy Association is sponsoring the concert.
Recording artist to appear
ENON VALLEY -- Corey Emerson will be in concert at Bethel United Presbyterian Church in Enon Valley at 7 p.m. today. Corey is a nationally known Christian recording artist. His latest CD is "Sanctuary." An offering will be taken. There will be refreshments.
Workshop on Latino issues
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sociedad Mutualista Mexicana will have a workshop meeting with the Honorable Antonio Meza Estrada, general consul of Mexico for northern Ohio and Michigan, from 4 to 6 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave. Topics will include issues pertaining to Mexicans and Latinos in this area and on a national level; immigration and civil rights issues; and drivers' license issues in the state of Ohio. Special guest speaker will be Padre Thomas A. Carney, MSC.
Pastor appointed
AUSTINTOWN -- The Rev. John Trimbur has been appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Austintown by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, effective Oct. 18.Father Trimbur, ordained May 25, 1974, began his priestly service as assistant pastor at a Denver, Colo., parish. He came to the Youngstown diocese in 1978 and served as associate pastor at St. James in Warren, St. Joan of Arc in Canton, St. Joseph in Austintown, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Austintown and St. Catherine in Lake Milton. His pastorates included St. Joseph in Mantua, St. Stephen of Hungary in Youngstown, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Niles and St. John the Baptist, St. Lucy and St. Elizabeth, all in Campbell.
