SOCCER Mooney girls top Firestone, 6-0



Youngstown Christian's girls beat LaBrae and Howland's boys team beat Canfield.
STRUTHERS -- The Cardinal Mooney High girls soccer team scored five times in the first 20 minutes of the second half as the Cardinals rolled past Akron Firestone 6-0 Thursday.
Vickie Dreiling scored in the first half for the Cardinals (8-0-1), who are ranked third in Ohio among Division II teams.
After the break, Kelly Burke hit for two goals, while Kelli Willis, Nomiki Frangopoulos, Marisa Simon and Dreiling had one apiece.
Chipping in with assists were Colleen Zajac, Kara Joseph, Simon and Frangopoulos with one apiece. Willis recorded two assists.
Firestone (3-5-2) goalkeeper Katie McCans made four saves.
Warren JFK 3, Badger 2
WARREN -- Lauren Perisa, Jen Natale and Lexie Polivka scored goals and Natale, Polivka and Zeina Abudul-Aal had assists for the Eagles (7-4), who led 3-0 at the break.
For Badger (8-2), Tessa Bonar had a goal and assisted on a scoring shot by Jenna Miller.
Youngstown Christian 5, LaBrae 1
LEAVITTSBURG -- Five players scored one goal apiece for the Eagles (2-1-2).
Vickie Bankhead, Kara Cooper, Chelsey Pate, Amanda Vestal and Anneliese Vanuluck each scored as the Eagles took a 3-0 lead at the half.
Abbey Underwood scored in the second half to help the Vikings avoid a shutout.
Boys
STRUTHERS -- Ryan Novotny, Nick Chaney and Justin Mihaly each scored a goal as Ursuline topped Columbiana 3-1 at the Tri-County Sports Complex.
Corey Mihaly of the Irish (3-4-2) had an assist.
Jeff Harold scored the Clippers' goal on an assist from Andrew Stryfeller.
Ursuline had 23 shots on goal to Columbiana's three.
Clippers goalkeeper Ryan Guy had 15 saves.
Poland 8, Salem 2
POLAND -- Lenny Liguore scored three goals and Dain Malaniak scored twice for the Bulldogs in the Metro Athletic Conference match.
P.J. Booth, Matt Shurilla and Stephen Gavolas each had a goal for Poland (7-0-2, 4-0-1).
For the Quakers, Keith Getzinger and Thomas Lebiedzik each scored.
Niles 4, Alliance 0
ALLIANCE -- Nathan Mang scored four goals and T.J. Christie had two assists for the Red Dragons (3-6, 2-3 MAC). Niles had 15 shots on goal and the Aviators had 10.
Howland 3, Canfield 2
CANFIELD -- Malik Mohammad, Josh Keul and Mike Maiorano scored for the Tigers in the MAC match.
Scoring for Canfield were junior Pete Johnson and senior Ryan Conners. Adam Jones had an assist.
Mike Musilli registered 18 saves in the Canfield net. Howland keeper Paul Burley had 10 saves.
Lakeview 2, West Branch 1
BELOIT -- Jeremy Mink and Danny Myers scored for the Bulldogs.
Johnny Wallace scored on a header for the Warriors (5-3-2). Aaron Cronin had the assist.
