CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted a Youngstown man on a crack cocaine distribution charge, the U.S. attorney said. Charged was Juan L. Heriot, also known as Pedro Heriot, 29, of Clyde Street. The case was investigated by the FBI and the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force.
Scrap metal stolen
CAMPBELL -- Police are investigating the theft of about $3,000 worth of scrap metal belonging to Calex Corp., 2415 Wilson Ave.
According to a police report, a Calex employee said the theft has been going on for the past three months.
Quilt show scheduled
CLARKS MILLS, Pa. -- The IQ Quilt club will have its 25th anniversary quilt show, "Reflections," from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the New Vernon Grange on Goddard Park Road off Pa. Route 358 in Mercer County.
Admission is $2, and proceeds from the event go to needy families in the community.
The quilts of Cindy Briggs, a member of the group, will be showcased. There will be demonstrations, a country store and vendors, and lunch will be available.
Gets prison for DUI
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bobbie Jo Hartline, 36, of South Webb Avenue, Alliance, was sentenced to one year in prison in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for driving under the influence of alcohol.
She was arrested in August 2003 in Smith Township and pleaded guilty in July 2004. According to court records, it was Hartline's fifth DUI conviction in the past six years.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum also fined Hartline $800 and suspended her driver's license for the rest of her life.
Boat, trailer stolen
STRUTHERS -- Police are searching for a fishing boat, motor and trailer stolen from the front yard of a Ridgeway Street house.
The owner told police they had been parked in his yard more than a week. He discovered them missing when he awoke Wednesday. They're worth about $3,500, the report said.
Business burglarized
YOUNGSTOWN -- A break-in at LaFrance Cleaners, 2607 Glenwood Ave., was discovered early Thursday when workers arrived to open the business, police said. Thieves entered by breaking a front window. A cordless phone, radio and calculator were taken and the cash register was damaged, reports show.
Stolen car recovered
STRUTHERS -- Youngstown police recovered a black 1987 Oldsmobile that was stolen Tuesday after the owner left the keys in the ignition and the car running while he was inside the Kwik Fill gas station, 630 Youngstown-Poland Road.
According to reports, a white man with short, brown hair in his mid-20s jumped into the car and drove off just before 5 p.m.
When the car was found, it was missing its wheels and stereo, and the trunk lock was broken. The owner told police he'd also left his wallet, $35 in cash, driver's license, Social Security card and personal papers in the vehicle.
Cordless drill causes fire
STRUTHERS -- A 49-year-old East Wilson Street man received minor burns on his hands extinguishing a fire in his home.
The fire erupted Tuesday night when a cordless drill overheated while it was recharging and ignited a fire near an aerosol can that exploded.
According to police and fire reports, the Craftsman drill and 16.8-volt rechargeable battery were on a dresser in a spare room when the fire started.
No damage estimate was available.
A spokesman for Sears Craftsman said he was unaware of any recalls on the drill or rechargeable battery.
Donations at concert
SALEM -- The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army will accept donations of cash and nonperishable food for Columbiana County flood victims during a concert Sunday at Ponderosa Park. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. Campers Country Productions and Ponderosa Park also will make flood relief donations based on concert tickets sold. The concert features SheDaisy, The Povertyneck Hillbillies and the local band Desperado. The concert begins at 2 p.m. Radio station Froggy 104 will do a remote broadcast before the concert begins.
