PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP Poland shuts out Canfield



Shutouts were the order of the day.
POLAND -- Senior Colleen Moran scored on an assist by junior Sarah Anderson with 15 minutes remaining, as the Poland High girls soccer team edged Canfield 1-0 in a Metro Athletic Conference game Wednesday.
Sam Stanich made four saves for the Bulldogs (5-2-1, 2-2).
The Cardinals are 5-3-1, 2-2.
Fitch 4, North Canton Hoover 0
NORTH CANTON -- Jodi Bowlen scored three goals and Tiarra Sanders added the other as the Falcons (5-2-3, 3-1) blanked Hoover in a Federal League game.
Dina Harris had two assists and Brittney Getz one for Fitch. Cara Calai had seven saves.
Hoover is 6-3.
Lakeview 5, Newton Falls 0
CORTLAND -- Nikki Bevilacqua and Alli Nero scored two goals apiece for the Bulldogs (6-1). Paige Poulis added the other goal.
Britni Morello had two assists, while Kasey Baker and Poulis each had one.
Lakeview had 26 shots on goal and Newton Falls (3-5-2) had 11.
Grace Speltzer of Newton Falls had 13 saves. Lindsey Mellot of the Bulldogs had five.
Champion 8, Girard 0
CHAMPION -- Michelle Bafunno and Jessica Bennett scored two goals apiece for the Golden Flashes (5-2-3). Carlie Dawson, Danielle Bafunno, Jenna Lee and Eliza Slama added one each.
Melissa Boggess and Dawson each had two assists.
Champion had 26 shots on goal and Girard (2-9) had one.
The Indians' Ashley Esposito had 14 saves.
West Branch 8, Minerva 0
BELOIT -- Paige Stryffler scored four goals as West Branch blanked Minerva in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Ashley Kurena, Aimee Rice, Vana Morgan and McKenzie Wallace each scored for the Warriors (4-5, 2-0 NBC). Nikki Brown and Courtney Salvina each had two assists, and Melanie Kiko and Wallace had one apiece. West Branch outshot Minerva 29-2.
Badger 14, Jefferson 0
KINSMAN -- Tessa Bonar scored three goals, while Cayla Arnold and Shannon Sudon added two apiece for Badger (8-1).
Alivia Nuzzo, Abby Pettit, Hannah Miller, Sarah Dunfee, Michelle Fitch, Katy Dvorack and Jenna Miller each added one for the Braves.
Bonar had three assists, while Miller had two and Sudon, Nuzzo, Amanda Gordon and Kayla Flowers each had one.
The Braves had 28 shots on goal and Jefferson three.
Struthers 4, LaBrae 0
STRUTHERS -- Amanda Clawson scored two goals for the Wildcats (3-4-1). Dayna Yash and Maddy Giancola added one apiece. Breanna Rohrman had an assist.
Boys
CHAMPION -- Chris Palm scored two goals, including the game-winner with 1 minute, 20 seconds remaining, as Champion defeated Hubbard 2-1.
Palm got assists from Max Brugler and Tyler Lemon in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game. Rich Slama made five saves for the Golden Flashes (6-0-3, 4-0-1).
Hubbard (3-5, 3-3) got its goal from Scott Northcott, while Aaron Severa (12 saves) and Joey Cummings (six) combined in goal.
