Magazine finds documenton Spears' 'faux' wedding
NEW YORK -- So, are they married or what? And if they aren't, do we have to live through yet another trip down the aisle by wedding-mad Britney Spears?
Despite what looked like a wedding Saturday between Spears and Kevin Federline, they probably are not married, according to the new issue of Us Weekly. The magazine got hold of a four-page legal document the couple signed announcing they intended to "participate in a 'faux' wedding" and "shall not validly marry one another" on the announced date.
"This is all ludicrous," a spokesperson for Spears told Us Weekly. "They are happily married, and I have no reason to believe otherwise."
People magazine, which sure hopes they're married, because it spent seven figures for the exclusive rights to photos, insists the happy couple grinning from the cover of its current issue are man and wife.
But not entirely. It seems they haven't filed the marriage license yet because they're still working on the prenup.
In an early version of the pact, Spears offered Federline only $36,000 a year in support if their union goes bust. The figure since has been upped to $300,000.
Words from The Boss:Just focus on the facts
NEW YORK -- Bruce Springsteen, who once bemoaned the television wasteland in his song "57 Channels," offered some fresh criticism of the small screen and its political coverage: Enough with partisan politics and "Fear Factor" -- let's focus on the facts.
"Things are distorted by ratings and by money to where you're getting one hour of the political conventions," Springsteen tells Rolling Stone. "No matter how staged they are, I think they're a little more important than people eating bugs."
The New Jersey rocker also offered harsh words for the Bush administration and its efforts to "sanitize" coverage of the war in Iraq.
"The fact that the administration refused to allow photographs of the flag-draped coffins of returning dead, that the president hasn't shown up for a single military funeral for the young people who gave their lives for his policies, is disgraceful," Springsteen says.
Springsteen, before launching his Vote for Change tour with the Dixie Chicks, R.E.M., Pearl Jam and other artists, said he had noticed a change in press coverage of the election -- and he offered an explanation for the switch.
"I think Fox News and the Republican right have intimidated the press into an incredible self-consciousness about appearing objective, and backed them into a corner of sorts where they have ceded some of their responsibility and righteous power," he said.

LOS ANGELES -- He's here, and he's there.

His son Miko Brando told the paper that the actor cherished Death Valley; during the same ceremony, the ashes of his friend Wally Cox were also poured into the desert. Cox died in 1973.
