ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Raul Ibanez tied an American League record with six hits and Ichiro Suzuki had four more singles to pace Seattle's 24-hit outburst in a rout of Anaheim. The Angels remained 21/2 games behind Oakland in the AL West, but dropped 61/2 games behind Boston in the AL wild-card race. Ibanez went 6-for-6 with a career-high five RBIs a night after Suzuki went 5-for-5 in Seattle's 7-3 victory over the Angels. Ibanez's six hits tied the AL record for a nine-inning game. Suzuki set a Seattle record with nine hits in two games. He now has 247 hits this season and is 10 from tying George Sisler's 84-year-old major league record with 10 games remaining.
Blue Jays 5, Yankees 4
NEW YORK -- Vernon Wells hit a go-ahead, two-run triple off Orlando Hernandez in the seventh inning, and Toronto rallied past New York. New York built a 3-0 lead when Bernie Williams hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Ruben Sierra added a solo shot in the second off Ted Lilly (12-10).
Royals 7, Devil Rays 6, 10 innings
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Ruben Gotay hit an RBI grounder in the 10th inning and Kansas City beat Tampa Bay. David DeJesus homered and drove in three runs for the Royals. Tampa Bay's Matt Diaz hit his first major league homer.
Rangers 5, Athletics 3
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Kenny Rogers matched a career high with his 17th win and Eric Young hit his first homer in more than a year, a three-run tiebreaker, moving Texas within three games of Oakland in the AL West. Rogers (17-8) was pulled after giving up a walk and single to start the sixth, but allowed just three runs and matched the 17 wins he had for Texas in 1995.
White Sox 7, Twins 6
CHICAGO -- Paul Konerko hit a game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning to lead Chicago over Minnesota. Wilson Valdez led off with a single off Joe Roa (2-3) and moved to second on Aaron Rowand's sacrifice.
Red Sox 7, Orioles 6, 12 innings
BOSTON -- Orlando Cabrera homered leading off the bottom of the 12th inning, lifting Boston to its second straight last at-bat victory against Baltimore. Cabrera lined a 2-2 pitch from Rick Bauer (1-1) over the Green Monster. The Red Sox, the AL wild-card leaders, moved within 31/2 games of the New York Yankees in the AL East.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Giants 5, Astros 1
SAN FRANCISCO -- Rookie Noah Lowry won his sixth straight decision and remained unbeaten in 13 major league starts, and Ray Durham hit a two-run double to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros. Lowry limited Astros to five hits in his second complete game, helping the Giants win for the ninth time in 10 games to remain a half-game ahead of Chicago in the NL wild-card race. Houston dropped three games back.
Padres 4, Dodgers 0
SAN DIEGO -- Jake Peavy pitched eight shutout innings, and Phil Nevin hit a two-run homer to lead San Diego past Los Angeles. Los Angeles, which has lost five of seven, saw its lead drop to its smallest margin since it led the Giants by a half-game on July 15. Peavy (13-6) allowed a leadoff single to Adrian Beltre in the second, then retired 12 of 13.
Phillies 12, Marlins 4
MIAMI -- Pat Burrell hit a three-run homer, and Eric Milton won for the first time in more than a month, leading Philadelphia over Florida. Mike Lieberthal, Jason Michaels and Placido Polanco each added two-run homers in the Phillies' second win in two nights at Florida after having lost 14 straight at Pro Player Stadium.
Reds 11, Braves 8
ATLANTA -- Javier Valentin hit a three-run homer to cap Cincinnati's five-run comeback in the ninth inning off closer John Smoltz, leading the Reds past Atlanta. Chipper Jones' three-run homer in the seventh gave the Braves an 8-6 lead, but Smoltz (0-1) gave up four hits and five runs, walking a batter and throwing two wild pitches while recording only one out.
Cardinals 3, Brewers 2
MILWAUKEE -- Larry Walker hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, lifting St. Louis over Milwaukee. The Cardinals, the NL Central champions, improved to 32-13 in their last 45 games. Brady Clark had four hits and drove in both runs for Milwaukee, which has lost eight of nine.
Mets 3, Expos 2
MONTREAL -- Mike Piazza's RBI single in the eighth inning helped New York end a three-game losing skid. New York moved two games ahead of Montreal for fourth place in the NL East. The Expos have been in last place since April 15. The Mets rallied in the eighth off Luis Ayala (6-12) after Montreal's Tony Batista hit his third homer in two games.
Rockies 4, Diamondbacks 2
DENVER -- Shawn Estes outpitched Randy Johnson, and Jeromy Burnitz hit his 37th homer to lift Colorado over Arizona. Estes (15-7) didn't allow a baserunner until walking Robbie Hammock to lead off the third inning, and didn't give up a hit until Alex Cintron beat out an infield single with one out in the fourth.
