Some teams may have to wait as long as Leetonia did to finally get a home game.
Several Eastern Ohio teams lost their home playing fields because of last week's flooding, including Bellaire, Bridgeport, Bellaire St. John and East Liverpool. All may have to give up the remainder of their home games this season because of the floodwaters.
Many games were postponed and several were canceled because of the rising water. Unbeaten Cambridge's game against Wheeling (W.Va.) Park was postponed until Monday evening and then later canceled.
Meanwhile, the extended road trip for Leetonia finally came to a welcome end Saturday night.
First game at stadium
The Bears enjoyed their first game at their new stadium after playing 13 straight on the road. The old stadium was torn down before last season and they wandered until they could return home.
The Bears celebrated 100 years of football at the school with more than 300 former players and coaches in attendance at Saturday's game, including Chuck Mather, who led the Bears to unbeaten seasons in 1941 and 1945 before becoming the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears' 1963 NFL championship team.
Leetonia treated the gathering to a 47-0 win over Sebring McKinley, as Aaron Merrill scored three touchdowns to become the school's career scoring leader.
