The return of the original dating reality show "The Bachelor" (9 p.m., ABC) features a new, some might say empowering, twist on the mating dance. This time, the 25 "bachelorettes" will choose between two candidates to decide which one they'll all pursue. The bachelor-hopefuls are: Jay Overbye, 40, a never-married Jersey guy and former model who sells real estate, and Byron Velvick, also 40, a divorced bass fisherman from California who's devoted to his dog, Sabrina. The chosen bachelor will move into the villa occupied by the bachelorettes. Chris Harrison returns as host/guide to the occasionally rocky road to romance.
A 17-year-old high school student (Kristen Bell) juggles homework and a job as a private investigator, trying to uncover the "darkest secrets" of her posh California beach town in "Veronica Mars" (9 p.m., UPN).
