Blazek sparks 'Flashes' 5-0 win



Nate Blazek had two goals for No. 3-ranked Champion against Liberty.
LIBERTY -- Nate Blazek had two goals and John Emory, Max Bragler and Chris Palm each had one goal for Champion High, as the Golden Flashes defeated Liberty, 5-0, in a Trumbull Athletic Conference boys soccer game Monday.
Champion is ranked third in Division III in this week's state coaches poll.
Jeremy Hume had 10 saves for Liberty (2-5).
Ursuline 3, Warren JFK 0
STRUTHERS -- Nick Chaney had a goal and an assist for Ursuline, which scored all three goals in the second half.
Anthony Yurcho and Ryan Novotny also scored, while Chris Depaola and Justin Mihaly had assists for Ursuline, which outshot JFK 19-7.
Jerad Daly had seven saves for the Irish, while Brian Wolnick had 13 saves for the Eagles.
The game was continued after last Thursday's lightning delay with 32:07 remaining in the first half.
Columbiana 3, Chaney 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kyle Martin scored twice and Andrew Stryffeler also scored for Columbiana, which took a 3-0 first half lead. David Jackson had two assists and Julie Casacchia had one for the Clippers (4-5-1). Eric Bable had 24 saves and Devin Cooper added 14.
Ryan Guy had 11 saves for Chaney, while Eric Sheffield and Jeff Asch scored goals.
Girls
WARREN -- Jenn Natale scored three goals -- all in the first half -- as Warren JFK took a 5-0 lead after 40 minutes and went on to an 8-0 win over Girard.
Katie Piacquadio had two goals and a pair of assists for JFK (5-4), while Roxy Hoerig and Lexie Polivka each had a goal.
The Indians are 2-5.
Canfield 8, Alliance 0
CANFIELD -- Nikki Sorice had two goals and two assists for Canfield (5-2, 3-1) in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Tia Norris had two goals, while Liz Vernal, Callie Carrerra and Emily Sulinski each had a goal and an assist. Audra Frinpong scored and Melanie Seiser had an assist for the Cardinals, which outshot Alliance 32-2.
Youngstown Christian 5, Struthers 5
STRUTHERS -- Kara Cooper scored three goals and Arielle Flores had the other two for Youngstown Christian (1-1-2).
Vayna Yash scored four goals and Breanna Rohrman scored another for the Wildcats.
Champion 5, Hubbard 1
HUBBARD -- Carlie Dawson had a goal and three assists for Champion (4-2-3, 3-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Danielle Bafunno, Jenna Lee, Eliza Slama and Stephanie Rable added goals, while Brittany Skeels and Gina Calderone added assists. Jessica Wood had 11 saves.
Alison Wynne scored for Hubbard (3-4, 2-2). Hope Wright had seven saves and Tina Takash had three.
