WARREN -- Anti-abortion activists are planning the 13th annual Life Chain protest from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 3. Organizers predict that more than 1,200 people will line up along Elm Road N.E. from Warren Plaza to Harding High School during the event.
Professor plans 2 lectures
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. Paul Finkelman, Chapman Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Tulsa College of Law in Oklahoma, will give two public lectures this week at Youngstown State University.
He will lecture on "The Proslavery Origin of the Electoral College" at 7 p.m. today in the Presidential Suites of Kilcawley Center, and on "The Struggle for Racial Equality in Pre-Civil War Ohio" at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Galley of Kilcawley Center.
Democrat group to meet
POLAND -- The Democrats of the 17th and 6th Districts, a local political organization, will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Poland Community Baseball Association hall on Sheridan Road. Candidates for the November general election will attend. The public is invited.
Facing firearms charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- After searching a wooded area in the 2900 block of Roy Street where the sound of gunfire was heard around 6 p.m. Monday, police arrested Andrew L. Johnson, 38, of Roy Street on a charge of discharging a firearm within city limits. Officers said they confiscated a .22-caliber handgun and 40 rounds of ammunition.
Car crashes into cruiser
CAMPBELL -- A city police car was damaged when a 23-year-old Youngstown man fleeing from police sped his through an intersection and crashed into it.
According to reports, Jeffery C. Howell of Early Road ran a stop sign at Madison Avenue around 9 p.m. Sunday.
When a Campbell police officer initiated a traffic stop, the report says, Howell failed to yield, leading the officer through several neighborhoods before crashing into another cruiser at 13th Street and Robinson Road where the second Campbell police officer and an officer from Coitsville Township had secured the intersection.
The front bumper and passenger side fender of the cruiser were damaged.
Theft at McDonald's
CAMPBELL -- Police are investigating a theft from the safe inside McDonald's restaurant, 691 McCartney Road, that netted the thief about $270 in cash and $200 in gift certificates.
Police said an employee reported the money and certificates missing Sunday.
Cars reported vandalized
STRUTHERS -- Police are seeking information regarding vandals who damaged 10 automobiles at a used-car dealership over the weekend.
According to police, the hoods and trunk lids of the vehicles, which were parked in the front row under the lights at John Moore Auto Sales and Service, 68 Lowellville Road, were scraped and gouged.
The report says the damage most likely occurred between late Friday and Saturday morning.
