Shock 68, Sting 54
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Cheryl Ford and Barbara Farris each scored 15 points to help Detroit make the playoffs. The Shock (17-17) clinched the No. 3 seed and a chance to defend their WNBA title, while Charlotte (16-18) was eliminated on the final day of the season. Detroit led 27-23 at halftime thanks to a late 19-7 run. The Shock only made five of their first 21 shots and trailed by 10 midway through the half before mounting a charge. The Shock quickly went up 33-23 after the break and held on, thanks to a 16-5 run to end the game. Merlakia Jones finished with 12 points for the Shock. Allison Feaster led the Sting with 12 points.
Liberty 79, Mystics 75
NEW YORK -- Becky Hammon and rookie Shameka Christon scored 18 points apiece, and New York locked up the second seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Hammon had six points in the final 36 seconds, and Elena Baranova added 16 points and 11 rebounds for New York. Alana Beard scored 23 -- including 19 straight Mystics' points in the second half -- and Stacey Dales-Schuman added 16 for Washington, which lost for the first time in six games and just the fourth in 11 without Chamique Holdsclaw.
Sun 80, Fever 60
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Reserve Asjha Jones scored a season-high 16 points and Connecticut clinched the regular season Eastern Conference title for the first time in its six-year history. Jones made all eight of her free throws and helped lead the Sun's reserves, who combined for 41 points. Tamika Catchings scored a season-high 30 for Indiana.
Mercury 78, Comets 64
PHOENIX -- Plenette Pierson and Anna DeForge each scored 24 points to lead Phoenix. Tina Thompson had 17 and Octavia Blue scored 13 to lead the Comets (13-21), who wrapped up their worst season ever and missed the playoffs for the first time in history. No. 1 draft pick Diana Taurasi scored 14 points and finished fourth in the WNBA in scoring, averaging 17 points a game.
Monarchs 72, Lynx 63
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Yolanda Griffith had 18 points and seven rebounds to help Sacramento finish 18-16 with the fourth seed in the Western Conference. Kara Lawson scored 17 points and had a career-high eight assists for the Monarchs, who used an 11-3 run in the fourth quarter to break a 49-all tie and take the lead for good. Svetlana Abrosimova made four 3-pointers and led the Lynx with 21 points.
