No oops! this time;Spears weds on purpose
LOS ANGELES -- Britney Spears, who rose to stardom singing "Oops! ... I Did It Again," has once again tied the knot, the second marriage in nine months for the multiplatinum artist.
Spears, 22, married her fianc & eacute;, 26-year-old dancer Kevin Federline, in a secret weekend ceremony, her record label said Sunday. "She did marry him," Jive Records spokeswoman Sonia Muckle told The Associated Press.
Muckle declined to provide further details. On its Web site, "Entertainment Tonight" said the wedding was held Saturday evening at a private home in the Studio City area with 20 to 30 people attending.
It was the second marriage in nine months for Spears. In January, she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in a surprise wedding in Las Vegas. That marriage was annulled 55 hours later.
Federline appeared in the movie "You Got Served" and performed as a backup dancer for singer Justin Timberlake, Spears' former boyfriend. He was previously involved with actress Shar Jackson of TV's "Moesha." They have two children -- a 2-year-old and a newborn.
Elton has words of wisdomfor novice musicians
SHANGHAI, China (AP) -- A word of advice from Elton John to up-and-coming musicians: Pay your dues. "Bands today have to learn their craft by putting the hard work in that we did when we were young performers," said John, who was in Shanghai on Saturday for the first China shows of his four-decade-old career.
"We didn't just make a video, then go out on the road. We were on the road before we had gotten a record contract," said the singer and pianist, who started out in the early 1960s toiling on the British pub circuit with the soul act Bluesology.
John performed two concerts Sunday. After a career that has spanned styles from the bouncy rock-and-roll of "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" to the soundtrack for Disney's "The Lion King" and a London musical based on the film "Billy Elliott," John said he listens to new artists for a dose of "energy, rawness, and instinctiveness."
Surrealism and fantasy: Dali turns up at Disney
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Roy Disney said he had heard the myths at Walt Disney Co. for a long time -- that Salvador Dali's artworks from a long-forgotten project were somewhere in the studio's archives.
It turned out not to be a myth.
The surrealist master had worked with Disney's uncle, Walt Disney, from 1945-46, producing seven paintings and hundreds of ink drawings for an animated film that never got made, Disney said.
The artwork -- which Disney valued at $5 million to $10 million -- sat in the studio unseen by the public for 58 years.
Notable deaths
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Skeeter Davis, who hit the top of the pop charts with "The End of the World" in 1963 and sang on the Grand Ole Opry radio show for more than 40 years, died Sunday of cancer. She was 72.
Davis died at a Nashville hospice, said Grand Ole Opry publicist Jessie Schmidt. Davis had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988 and had a recurrence in 1996.
Davis, nicknamed Skeeter by her grandfather, who said she was so active she buzzed around like a mosquito, had toured with Elvis Presley and the Rolling Stones.
NEW YORK -- Eddie Adams, a photojournalist whose half-century of arresting work was defined by a single frame -- a Pulitzer Prize-winning Associated Press photo of a communist guerrilla being executed in a Saigon street during the Vietnam War -- died Sunday. He was 71.
Adams died at his Manhattan home from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease, said his assistant, Jessica Stuart.
