NEW YORK -- New York battered Pedro Martinez and chased Boston out of town with another rout. Gary Sheffield, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada homered off Martinez and Mike Mussina (12-9) allowed one run and seven hits in seven innings, winning his third straight start. Alex Rodriguez also connected in the second consecutive offensive outburst by the Yankees, who outscored their rivals 25-5 the past two days. Martinez (16-7) lasted only five-plus innings and allowed eight runs, matching a season worst.
Twins 5, Orioles 1
MINNEAPOLIS -- Johan Santana won his 11th straight start with another dominant performance, striking out a career high 14 over eight shutout innings. Santana (19-6) allowed seven hits and didn't walk a batter, extending his scoreless inning streak to 30. Michael Restovich hit a two-run homer, and Luis Rivas and Henry Blanco each had solo shots for the Twins, who can clinch the Central title tonight at Chicago.
Athletics 2, Mariners 1
SEATTLE -- Eric Chavez and Erubiel Durazo each drove in runs, and Mark Redman (11-12) outpitched Bobby Madritsch (5-3) as Oakland pulled three games ahead of Anaheim in the AL West. Redman allowed one run and eight hits in 62/3 innings. Octavio Dotel pitched the ninth for his 22nd save. Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki was hitless in four at-bats and walked, holding his season hits total at 236.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Rookie Chris Young (2-2) allowed five hits in six innings and Kevin Mench hit a run-scoring single as Texas shut out Anaheim for the second straight day. Jarrod Washburn (11-8) held the Rangers to an unearned run in eight innings.
White Sox 6, Tigers 1
CHICAGO -- Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee homered, and Freddy Garcia pitched shutout ball into the eighth inning to lead Chicago. Garcia (12-11) He allowed one run and six hits, struck out eight and walked three in 71/3 innings.
Blue Jays 9, Devil Rays 7
TORONTO -- Vernon Wells homered in Toronto's five-run third inning and Guillermo Quiroz had two RBIs. Vinnie Chulk (1-3) pitched 11/3 innings for his first major league win. Justin Speier got three outs for his seventh save. Aubrey Huff and Tino Martinez homered for Tampa Bay.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Giants 4, Padres 2
SAN FRANCISCO -- J.T. Snow had four RBIs to lead San Francisco over San Diego. Barry Bonds took most of the day off, appearing only to draw his major league-record 106th intentional walk as a pinch-hitter in the eighth, then leaving for a pinch-runner with the bases loaded. Snow followed with a two-run double to left off Akinori Otsuka to send San Francisco to its seventh victory in eight games. Snow also had an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
Cubs 5, Reds 1
CINCINNATI -- Moises Alou hit a tie-breaking two-run double off Danny Graves (1-6) in the ninth as Chicago got its sixth win in seven games. Chicago trailed 1-0 before pinch-hitter Ben Grieve's sacrifice fly off Paul Wilson in the eighth.
Marlins 3, Braves 0
MIAMI -- Ismael Valdez (13-8) allowed two hits in six innings, Jeff Conine drove in all three runs and Florida averted a series sweep. Conine broke up a scoreless duel in the sixth against Russ Ortiz (14-9) with a two-run homer, then singled home an unearned run in the eighth.
Dodgers 7, Rockies 6
DENVER -- Shawn Green homered on a two-out, 0-2 pitch off Shawn Chacon (1-9) in the ninth, and Los Angeles overcame a five-run deficit for the second time in three games. Eric Gagne pitched a perfect ninth for his 42nd save.
Diamondbacks 3, Cardinals 2
ST. LOUIS -- Rick Ankiel pitched two hitless innings with one walk and four strikeouts -- striking out the side in the fifth on 14 pitches. It was his first outing at Busch Stadium since May 10, 2001. Larry Walker hit a two-run homer, but Scott Hairston's two-run single overcame a 2-1 deficit.
Phillies 7, Expos 2
PHILADELPHIA -- Kevin Millwood, sidelined since Aug. 5 because of a sprained ligament and tendon in his right elbow, allowed one run and three hits in two innings. Gavin Floyd (2-0) won despite allowing four hits and five walks in three innings.
Astros 1, Brewers 0
HOUSTON -- Roger Clemens (18-4) won his sixth straight start and got his 328th victory, allowing two hits in eight innings and striking out 10 as the Astros completed a three-game sweep. Brad Lidge struck out the side in the ninth for his 25th save.
