SCRAPPERS
No sellout at Eastwoodwas a disappointment
Fanfare:
Where Were You Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004?
My husband and I attended many Mahoning Valley Scrapper games this season at Eastwood Field including Sunday's thriller which was game one of the championship series. I was totally surprised to see that the stadium was not sold out. We were among the 3,700 fans to watch an exciting game. The Scrappers never gave up and the stadium was filled with shouting and applause when our Mahoning Valley team won in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Our Valley complains when the Cleveland Indians and Browns do poorly. The Scrappers made us winners Monday evening in Troy, N.Y. with the first New York-Penn League title in six years. Our team went into the playoffs as a wild card and came out the champs. For you who missed Sunday's game -- you missed out on the road to a championship by not supporting our Class A baseball team.
I'm glad we were there to watch the underdogs win for a change!
