GOSHEN -- A portion of Pine Lake Road, between South Duck Creek Road and state Route 14 in Goshen Township, will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday while workers from the Mahoning County Engineer's Office replace a culvert. Traffic will be detoured along South Duck Creek Road, West South Range Road, Seacrist Road and Route 14.
Counseling center offerspresentation on ADHD
SALEM -- Chris Zeigler Dendy will speak to parents and professionals about Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder on Thursday and Friday at Timberlanes restaurant, sponsored by the East Ohio Counseling Center. Dendy, author of the book "Teenagers with ADD," has been a classroom teacher, school psychologist, mental health administrator and executive director of a statewide mental health advocacy organization. A free presentation for parents will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the restaurant. A conference for professionals will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. For more information, call (330) 831-6756.
East Palestine bandplans its annual show
EAST PALESTINE -- The East Palestine High School Bulldog Marching Band will have its annual band show at 7 p.m. Monday at Reid Stadium. Sponsored by the East Palestine Band Parents Organization, the program will feature marching bands from the Crestview, Beaver Local, United, South Range and Warren G. Harding high schools. Admission is $5 for adults, and $3 for students and senior citizens. Proceeds will support the East Palestine band as it prepares for an appearance at Disney World in March 2005.
School board meeting
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Seaborn Elementary School, 3800 Niles-Carver Road, and not at the high school library. The board meets next month on Oct. 20 at the middle school. The board annually has some of its meetings at schools within the district.
United Day observance
WARREN -- Someplace Safe Inc. will celebrate its annual Unity Day observance at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 in Courthouse Square. The observance is to remember victims of domestic violence, to celebrate the survivors and to reaffirm the commitment of those working in the field. The event is part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed through October across the country. It's tradition for people to gather the first Monday of the month to conduct candlelight ceremonies and remember those who have experienced domestic violence.
Water level above normal
CLARK, Pa. -- The water level at Shenango River Lake is about 7 feet above normal summer pool level, resulting in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' closing all of the boat launches except the one at the Shenango Recreation Area. The Mahaney Day Use Area remains open, but the Shenango Recreation Area Campground has been closed and won't reopen this season.
Mercer County grants
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County has been awarded a $28,291 state recycling grant to be used to pay 50 percent of the county recycling coordinator's salary and benefits. Wilmington Township has been awarded a $424 Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant to help pay for enforcement of state sewage standards in the township. The grants were announced by Sen. Robert Robbins of Greenville, R-50th.
