COLUMBUS -- Edson Buddle scored a career-best and team-record four goals, and Columbus beat the MetroStars, securing a playoff spot and extending their unbeaten streak to 13 games. The Crew, who rallied from two one-goal deficits in a three-minute span, moved four points ahead of the MetroStars with five games remaining.
Burn 2, Galaxy 0
DALLAS -- Eddie Johnson scored twice on ricochets off goaltender Kevin Hartman in Dallas' win over Los Angeles. Dallas (10-11-5) snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Galaxy (10-8-8) and moved past San Jose into fourth place in the Western Conference. The Burn had not defeated Los Angeles since a 1-0 victory on Aug. 24, 2002.
United 3, Fire 1
WASHINGTON -- Alecko Eskandarian scored D.C. United's first corner-kick goal in 62 games, beating Henry Ring in the 20th minute to help Washington beat Chicago. Eskandarian's shot from just outside of the penalty area deflected off the shoulder of midfielder Scott Buete and into the top right corner.
Wizards 1, Earthquakes 0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Diego Gutierrez scored in the 83rd minute to lift Kansas City past San Jose. The Wizards (12-9-5, 41 points) retook the lead in the Western Conference by two points over the Colorado Rapids, who lost 6-1 at New England. Wizards forward Davy Arnaud set up the game-winner, centering a ball from the left wing into the San Jose penalty box. Gutierrez ran onto the ball and sent a shot off the right post for the lead. San Jose (9-10-7, 34 points) dropped into last place in the Western Conference with the loss.
Revolution 6, Rapids 1
FOXBORO, Mass. -- Steve Rolston, Taylor Twellman and Patrick Noonan each scored two goals for New England. The Revolution (6-11-9) held a 4-1 lead at the half and won for the first time in six games to snap Colorado's five-match unbeaten strike. Jean Philippe Peguero scored for the Rapids (10-8-9).
