"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," the No. 1 scripted program of last season, is back for its fourth season.
Among the developments: the return of the Blue Paint Killer rocks Grissom's (William Petersen) world.
Also back (though they were only "missing" from the set for a while) are actors Jorja Fox and George Eads, who were dismissed and then rehired after a salary dispute.
A new lab tech (Reiko Aylesworth of "24") will join the cast, too.
The "CSI" franchise delivers its latest, with "CSI: NY" bowing in at 10 p.m. Wednesday. The third in this forensic series stars Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes as scientific detectives solving the Big Apple's weirdest murders.
"We're a forensic procedural drama at heart," says executive producer Anthony Zuicker, "but the execution of the show will be slightly more character driven.
"We're going to attempt to have shorter scripts. We're going to attempt to have more music. We're going to attempt to literally let the moments play and get to know these wonderful characters a lot sooner."
And lest we forget there's "CSI: Miami." The opener promises to reveal the death of a major character.
Who is it going to be? Well, it could be Tim (Rory Cochrane, who did not renew his contract this season). Joining the cast will be Jonathan Togo.
"CSI" and its kin aren't the only returning shows this week. Summer television is officially over, with more than 30 prime-time network shows back for the fall season this week.
And that number does not include new series making their way onto the schedule this week.
